Our Story: Born from Love & Compassion

“Idia’s Community Kitchen holds a deep personal history. It was set up in memory of my daughter, who tragically passed away at just 11 years old. She and I used to take food and drinks to homeless people together, befriending many of them. Today, that exact spirit of hands-on compassion lives on through every branch of our work.”
 — Aina Omo-Bare, Founder

For the past seven years, Idia’s Community Kitchen (Registered Charity CIO 1194336) has been a vital lifeline for individuals and families across Hackney and surrounding East London neighborhoods facing food insecurity, severe hardship, and social isolation.

We believe that access to good food, basic everyday necessities, and human dignity is a fundamental right. Beyond providing a hot meal, we offer a safe, respectful space to help our neighbours tackle loneliness, navigate the cost-of-living crisis, and feel genuinely valued.

What We Do

01.

Chef-Cooked Hot Meals & Street Outreach

Led by founder and qualified chef Aina Omo-Bare, our team transforms rescued surplus food into nutritious, comforting hot meals served across four weekly street outreach shifts and indoor community dining spaces

02.

Open-Door Foodbank & Grocery Redistribution

We operate seven days a week to collect quality surplus food from local businesses, providing fresh produce, bakery goods, and emergency food parcels directly to over 800 individuals and families every week.

03.

Emergency Clothing & Used Furniture

To address poverty beyond hunger, we provide free donated clothing, winter coats, essential toiletries, and used furniture to help neighbours rebuild their homes without taking on predatory debt.

04.

Care & Hygiene Services

We provide direct, compassionate street support to local rough sleepers, with plans in our upcoming operational hub to offer private, dignified shower and laundry facilities.

05.

Holistic Signposting & Advocacy

We use the trust built over hot meals to connect vulnerable residents with essential statutory and local support services—including housing, mental health, financial guidance, and immigration aid.

06.

Environmental Impact through Zero Food Waste

We intercept tons of high-quality food from local retailers that would otherwise end up in landfills, protecting the environment while fighting local food poverty.
